Manchester Christmas Markets
Stalls, lights, and mulled everything across the city centre squares.
Manchester’s Christmas Markets take over the city centre squares from 6 November through to early January. Wooden chalets, strings of lights, mulled wine, bratwurst, and gifts you can carry home on the tram. Albert Square is the anchor, in front of the Town Hall, and the stalls run on through the neighbouring streets so the wander is longer than a single square.
Entry is free. Weekends and the hour after work are the crush, especially once the Festive Wheel is up and the parade has been through. Weekday late mornings are the kinder time if you actually want to see what is on a stall before you buy it. The food is the other half of the visit. Pick one thing and eat it while you walk, then loop back for the present you nearly missed. The lights stay on into the evening, which is when the centre looks most like itself in December.
