Stand-up Scratch Night

New material from local comics — cheap tickets, sharp punchlines, sticky floors.

Stand-up scratch night at the Deaf Institute is new material from local comics, in the room above Grosvenor Street that still feels like a night out. Tickets are £8. The bill changes, the floor is reliably sticky, and the point of a scratch night is that some of the jokes are being tried in public for the first time. When one lands, the room knows it.

It is Thursday 12 November, from half seven. Oxford Road and the universities are a short walk, so the crowd mixes people who came for a specific act with people who just wanted midweek laughs without a filmed special wrapped around them. Get a drink on the way up. The good stuff often happens before the headline, while the comics are still working out the phrasing. Stay if a new bit suddenly works. That is the evening you came for.
