Home Alone in Concert

The Christmas comedy classic on the big screen with John Williams’ score played live by orchestra and choir.

Home Alone in Concert puts the film on the big screen at Bridgewater Hall while an orchestra and choir play John Williams’ score live in the room. The cues you already know, from the house emptying out to the church and the sticky bandits on the stairs, land differently when the strings are twenty feet away. Williams wrote a proper action score for a family comedy, and this is the format that lets you hear it.

The film plays across 2 and 3 December. Check tickets for which night, and for whether you want to be close enough to watch the players as well as the screen. Lower Mosley Street is central, and the hall handles a choir without the screen fight you get in some arena screenings. It suits people who can quote the film and still want the music treated seriously. Kevin McCallister does the plotting. The orchestra does the bit you feel in your chest. Arrive before the lights go down. The first cue is part of the joke.
