Manchester Animation Festival
Screenings, talks and workshops — Cosgrove Hall at 50, Aardman secrets, and The Cat in the Hat.
Manchester Animation Festival is the UK’s largest of its kind, spread across HOME on Tony Wilson Place and a set of partner venues. Five days of screenings, talks and workshops. This year’s markers include Cosgrove Hall at 50, a Manchester studio whose films a lot of the audience grew up on, a look at how Aardman actually makes the models move, and a screening of The Cat in the Hat.
It runs from 8 to 12 November. The daytime programme leans toward families. The evenings lean toward people who care how a shot was built, which means you can take a child to a morning screening and stay for an industry talk once they are bored. Check the programme before you turn up. The festival is a timetable, and the thing you came for might be in a smaller screen at 4pm rather than in the poster image. HOME is on Oxford Road, next to the old First Street warehouses. Tickets and day passes sit on the venue’s listings. Give yourself time between screens. The conversations in the foyer are half the festival.
