Manchester Coffee Festival is the North’s biggest weekend for specialty coffee. Independent roasters pour, baristas compete, and the demos cover everything from a careful filter to the milk drink you will queue for twice. Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park is the site: a big hall, a lot of stalls, and the low hum of grinders from the moment the doors open.
It runs from 20 to 22 November. Check tickets, and go in with a short list of roasters you actually want to taste, or the afternoon disappears into flat whites you did not mean to order. Longbridge Road is on the Trafford Park side, so the tram plus a short walk beats driving in circles around the retail parks. Pace yourself. Cupping in the morning, one competition if it interests you, and a bag of beans at the end rather than six. The people on the stalls will talk about the farm if you ask. That conversation is better than another pastry.
