Alan the Soul Man hosts Funky Friday at Poynton Workmen’s Club on 27 November. Soul, funk and disco, pay on entry, doors from 8pm in the Vernon Suite. The pleasure of the night is how little fuss it takes. You turn up, you pay, and the records are already doing the job of getting people off the chairs. Alan’s reputation in the club is for reading the room: a run of soul when people are still arriving, funk once the floor has a few bodies on it, disco when it needs a bigger chorus.

Park Lane, through to about half eleven. It suits a night where you dance a bit and talk a bit, which is most Fridays if the music is right and the volume leaves you a sentence. No need to book ahead. Do need to get there before the suite is too full to find your people.
