Teenage Fanclub at New Century Hall

Melodic indie lifers fill the Northern Quarter hall with guitars that still sparkle.

Teenage Fanclub play New Century Hall with the same melodic indie they have been refining since Glasgow in the late eighties. Guitars that chime, choruses that take their time, and songs that suit a room with a bit of height and a crowd who know the records. Big tunes, soft edges, and very little interest in pretending to be a newer band.

Saturday 7 November, from 6pm, with tickets from £34.65. New Century Hall is on Spear Street in the Northern Quarter, a beautiful room that fills fast on nights like this and sounds better when you are in it before the set rather than still at the bar for the first three songs. Arrive early. The building rewards a proper look, and the first songs are worth hearing from inside the room. Get a sightline. The guitars are the point, and they sparkle more when you can see where they are coming from. A Manchester date for a band this consistent is a Saturday you plan around, not one you drift into.
