Whitworth Late — In Light and Shade

Whitworth Late keeps the Oxford Road gallery open into the evening for In Light and Shade. Live music in the building, and a chance to look at Turner after dark, when the daytime school groups have gone and the park outside the windows is quiet. Entry is free. The Whitworth is the university gallery at the end of Oxford Road, with the park on one side and the street on the other, and an evening opening changes the pace of both.

Friday 13 November, from 6pm to 9pm. Art after work, without having to choose between the galleries and a separate bar across town. The music happens among the rooms, so you can stand in front of a canvas and still hear it. Turner’s light is the exhibition hook, and seeing it when the sky outside has already gone dark is a different experience from a Saturday afternoon visit. Come straight from the office or the university. Stay until the rooms thin out. It is a soft way into the weekend, and it costs nothing except the time to walk down Oxford Road and actually look.
